Lieutenant Governor’s letter of appointement

The Lieutenant Governor of Chuuk has recommended the First Lady of the State for the position of Deputy Director for the Department of Education.

The recommendation is being touted as politically motivated. The Lieutenant Governor is a candidate for Governor in the upcoming 2021 election. A support from the current Governor and the First Lady would significantly boost his chances at the polls.

The claim that this appointment is politically motivated is supported by the fact that the CDOE board was not contacted about this appointment and applications for the position of Deputy Director are still under review.

In his letter to the First Lady the Lieutenant Governor lists, “classroom teacher for five years”, “former Chief of Secondary Schools for five years” and “Chief of Administration and Personnel… for ten years” as qualifications for the position. Along with a BA in Education or other related field, The First Lady meets the minimum requirements for the position of Deputy Director.

The recommendation was submitted to the Director of the CDOE and now awaits the consent of the Senate.
