Micronesian Games Set to Start

Kolonia, Pohnpei (July 15, 2014) - Pohnpei is set to host the 8th Micronesian Games. From July 20 – 30, 2014 an estimated 1,400 – 1,500 athletes and coaches will be participating, making this the largest Micronesian Games to date.

It has been 12 years since Pohnpei first hosted the Games in 2002. During those Games the State received some criticisms for unpreparedness. But, Sports Director Jim Tobin is fully confident that Pohnpei will be ready.

All the facilities are ready: the FSM-China Friendship Sports Center has been renovated as well as the Pohnpei State gymnasium. All of the courts have been refurbished, and the track has been upgraded. Mistakes made from the last Games have been corrected.

Along with the athletes and coaches, the Games are expected to attract hundreds of participants. All of the hotels on the island are now fully occupied.
